Other Information About Pittsfield Main Street
What is "Main Street"? The program was founded by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as an effort to focus on the revitalization and historic preservation of traditional small towns across America. Main Street provides guidelines for communities to enhance their appearance, give economic stability to its downtown business district and improve community pride and quality of life for residents and visitors.
Who is Pittsfield Main Street? The Pittsfield Main Street program is a team of volunteers from our local residents and businesses. It is everyone who believes that Pittsfield is a special place to live, work and play.
How is Pittsfield Main Street Funded? Our Pittsfield Main Street program is funded by the city of Pittsfield, by memberships of local businesses and residents and by various fundraising efforts. We are part of the Illinois Main Street organization through the Office of the Lieutenant Governor; however, no funding is provided by the State of Illinois or by the Lieutenant Governor's Office. The Illinois Main Street organization provides technical assistance and training by hosting several workshops annually throughout the state. The funding we receive from the City and from the memberships is used to support the various projects of our four committees and to pay the salary of a part-time Executive Director.
